In this course participants will get an in-depth look at why a horse's posture effects performance, how the forces created in sport impact soundness and what a rider can do to help their horse live a long sound life in sport. The participant will glean practical knowledge that they can apply to their horse, to not only assess potential problems, but to learn ways to strengthen and support areas of weakness and imbalance.

Topics included,

  • Postural assessment - looking at why it is essential to do this evaluation, how to do a general quarterly evaluation on your horse, and the impact of the information you will glean with this evaluation.
  • Equine biomechanics - Understanding the "why” of movement imbalance and its importance to the rider.
  • Activations - What they are and why we do them. Application of them and how to decide if your horse has normalized to them and its time to make harder. Contraindications to their use and how to evaluate if this exercise is not applicable to your horse.
  • Stretches, What they are and why we do them. Application of them and how to decide if your horse has normalized to them and its time to make harder. Contraindications to their use and how to evaluate if this exercise is not applicable to your horse.
