Caudal Failure in Horses refers to a breakdown of the soft tissues in the back of a horse’s hoof, namely the digital cushion, frog, collateral cartilages and heel angle. The condition is also known as "collapsed heels","under run heels, long toe/low heel". As well as NPA (Negative Palmar/Plantar Angle).
This failure occurs when the back part of the hoof, which is crucial for absorbing shock and providing support, weakens, resulting in long or short term lameness, discomfort, and potential performance decline.
